How to buy Tezos (XTZ) with a Ledger?

Taking part in the Stables adventure and becoming a Racer also means gaining a foothold in the bubbling ecosystem of the Tezos (XTZ) blockchain. Good news for Ledger users: the French unicorn supports the XTZ cryptocurrency and is compatible with Tezos! Let's take a look at how to buy XTZ on your Ledger wallet.

Before going any further in this tutorial, the prerequisite is of course that you own a Ledger wallet!

Tutorial: How to buy XTZ with Ledger

To buy XTZ on Ledger, start by opening your Ledger Live application and connecting your Ledger device to your computer.

Create a Tezos account on Ledger Live:

Go to the "Accounts" tab in the left-hand bar, then click on the "Add account" button in the top right-hand corner of the screen. In the window that opens, search for XTZ or Tezos, then click on "Continue".

On your Ledger device, validate the account creation approval and open the Tezos application. Back on your computer, click on "Add Account" in the window appearing on your Ledger Live application screen. Finally, complete the operation by clicking on "Done".

Start buying on Ledger Live:

In the left-hand bar, go this time to the "Buy / Sell" tab, then continue by clicking on "Compare Providers". In the window that appears, select your fiat currency (euro) and the cryptocurrency you wish to purchase, in this case XTZ. Enter the amount of euros you wish to spend (in the example below, 200 euros).

Choose a payment method :

Select the country you live in and the payment method you wish to use to complete the transaction. You have several choices: you can use a bank transfer (on average, this takes several days), or you can use your credit card. Note, however, that fees are 1.7% for the first option and 4.5% for the second.

Choosing a payment provider:

Whichever method you choose, be aware that Ledger does not natively manage money transfers, and goes through a third-party service provider. Nevertheless, you'll have a choice of several options, and Ledger will recommend in real time the one offering the most advantageous fees.

For the rest, simply follow the procedure suggested by the service provider. In this example, we'll be using MoonPay. Enter an e-mail address and click on "Continue", then fill in the code received by e-mail to continue.

Finalize the operation on the provider's website:

MoonPay again asks you to choose between payment by credit card and bank transfer. Select the method you chose and enter your bank details. Finalize the few steps required in your banking application to complete the payment.

That's it, you now have XTZs in your Tezos account on your Ledger wallet and all you need is an NFT from Stables to become a real Racer! 🐎
